Safeguarding & child protection

Keeping children safe in live online learning.

BrainyBots provides live online AI and coding education for students in Grades 4–8. This policy explains the safeguarding principles we expect to apply to classes, technology use, communication and concerns involving children.

Core principles

Safeguarding comes before convenience.

01Protect children from harm

No member of staff, volunteer or person acting for BrainyBots should inflict physical or psychological harm on a child.

02Take concerns seriously

Concerns about abuse, bullying, inappropriate behaviour, unsafe contact or a child’s welfare should be reported and handled promptly.

03Keep parents informed

Parents and guardians should know how to raise a safeguarding concern and who is responsible for safeguarding within BrainyBots.

How concerns are handled

A clear route from concern to action.

The exact response depends on the nature and urgency of the concern, but the following framework should guide BrainyBots safeguarding practice.

01Receive and record the concern

Listen carefully, avoid unnecessary questioning, and record the relevant facts securely.

02Escalate to the safeguarding lead

The designated safeguarding lead should review the concern and decide what action is required.

03Refer externally when necessary

Where a child may be at risk of harm, the safeguarding lead should contact the appropriate local safeguarding service, police or emergency service as required.

04Handle staff-related concerns separately

Any allegation that a staff member, tutor or volunteer may pose a risk to a child should be treated as a safeguarding matter and not handled informally.

Online learning safety

The same safeguarding standards apply online.

Live classes, AI tools and coding platforms create useful learning opportunities, but students should use them with clear boundaries.

1Respect other participants
Harassment, bullying, intimidation or deliberately inappropriate behaviour is not acceptable.
2Protect private information
Students should not share passwords, home addresses, payment details or unnecessary personal information in AI tools or class spaces.
3Use AI critically
Students are encouraged to think first, check outputs and use AI to support rather than replace their judgement.
4Tell an adult if something feels wrong
A child should speak to a parent, guardian or trusted adult if an online interaction makes them uncomfortable or concerned.
Report a concern

If you are worried about a child, tell us.

For a BrainyBots class or service concern, contact the designated safeguarding lead. If a child is in immediate danger, contact the appropriate emergency service rather than waiting for an ordinary website response.
